How Well Do You Know Attack on Titan?

Trivia QuizzesAnime

Humanity’s last survivors live behind three massive concentric walls, hiding from giant, mindless humanoids that exist for no clear reason except to devour people, and for a hundred years that arrangement mostly holds. Then a Titan taller than the wall itself appears out of nowhere, kicks a hole straight through the outer defenses, and Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan stops being a survival story and starts becoming something much stranger and more political than anyone expected from its opening episodes. What begins as a fairly straightforward tale about humanity fighting monsters eventually reveals that the real horror was never really the Titans themselves.

The year is 845 when the outer barrier fails at Shiganshina. Wall Maria, Wall Rose and Wall Sheena each stand roughly fifty metres, which is enough to stop every Titan anyone has catalogued, and the thing that appears above the gate that day measures around sixty. Eren Yeager watches his mother pinned under the wreckage of their house and eaten while he is carried away, and the survivors who make it inside Wall Rose become refugees in a territory that has just lost a third of its farmland. The reclamation operation sent out the following year kills most of them, which the government treats as a solution to the food shortage.

Fighting a Titan at all depends on a single anatomical weakness, a patch at the nape of the neck about a metre long and ten centimetres wide, and on the vertical manoeuvring gear that fires anchored cables and burns pressurised gas to swing a soldier into position for the cut. The Survey Corps, marked by the winged crest its members call the Wings of Freedom, has the highest casualty rate of the three military branches by a wide margin. Erwin Smith commands it. Levi Ackerman holds the rank of captain and is described flatly as the strongest soldier humanity has.

The 104th Cadet Corps supplies most of the cast, ranked against each other on graduation, and several of them are not what their files say. The Female Titan encases herself in crystal rather than answer questions. The Armored and Colossal Titans turn out to have been sitting in the same training barracks and eating the same meals as everyone hunting them, with motives that make the reveal considerably worse than a straightforward betrayal would have been.

Grisha Yeager’s basement in Shiganshina holds the actual explanation: journals describing a continent beyond the sea, a nation called Marley, and the Eldian population confined to walled districts and used as weapons there. The Titans are people. Nine of them carry inheritable power passed down on a thirteen-year cycle traced back to Ymir Fritz roughly two thousand years earlier, and the walls themselves are packed with millions of Colossal Titans held in place by a founding power the story eventually turns loose.

Isayama serialised the manga from 2009 to 2021, finishing at 139 chapters across 34 volumes; Wit Studio animated the first three seasons before MAPPA took over the final one. Questions here cover the walls and their fall, the Survey Corps and its ranks, Titan types and shifters, the world outside Paradis, and the production history. The answers appear with each question below once the quiz is submitted.
